November Director’s Newsletter

Happy Thanksgiving, Families!

This is such a wonderful month of basking in gratitude and time gathered together as families.  Your children will spend lots of time in their classrooms talking about thankfulness and all of the blessings in their little lives!

Service Learning

We will enter into our second month with all of the berries learning about Whittier Wildflowers Preschool, our sister school in Minneapolis, which began 4 years ago in a partnership between the Berry Patch and Calvary Church at 26th and Blaisdell.  Our founder, Berrie Lounsberry, supported the launch and shared the legacy of the Berry Patch to help give children in the Whittier neighborhood of Minneapolis the opportunity to have the same high-quality preschool experience the generations of Berry Patch kids have had.  Whittier’s tuition is on a sliding-scale according to household income and so is available to all!  Your children will learn about Whittier and will be encouraged to share with your family at home about shopping for snacks for our friends at our sister school.  You can bring in snacks to share at  the CSO (Children Serving Others) bin near your school’s check-in area. What a great opportunity for our school to show GRATITUDE and GENEROSITY as a community!

Dads and Donuts

Fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and guests are invited to join us for one of our all-time favorite Berry Patch traditions – Dads & Donuts!  These are very special mornings for your student and we hope you have it on your calendars.  Calvary’s Dads and Donuts days are November 12th or 13th and Colonial’s are November 14th or 15th.  Please ask your child’s teacher for the date your class will participate and note that the Edina Fire Department is no longer visiting preschools in the area.  As a result, we are switching things up a bit this year.  It is sure to be a magical morning for you and we look forward to seeing you!

Parent-Teacher Fall Conferences

We are excited to share with you all the ways that your child is blossoming as they explore, create, and develop relationships during their days at The Berry Patch!  Look for sign-up information from your classroom teacher(s).  Each teacher will have specific times available for this 15-minute time of sharing about your child’s development. PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO SECURE CHILDCARE FOR YOUR BERRY AND THEIR SIBLINGS DURING YOUR CONFERENCE TIME.  This ensures that you and your child’s teacher have a focused, individualized time to communicate about your child’s fall and discuss goals for the rest of the school year.  Look for Becky Danielson’s Parent Ed Newsletter on November 15th—she’ll share some great tips for parents for conference time.

Snack and Lunch Reminders

Thank you, families, for all of the wonderful, healthy snacks and lunches you send with your children!  This nourishment gives them all the energy they need to engage in the play that enables deep learning to happen. As a reminder: please do not send any choke-able items such as long baby carrots (they can be cut into smaller pieces) or hard pretzels.  Also, we know that lots of children love squeeze pouches of fruit sauces.  We prefer that those are snacks they enjoy at home as we are working with the children during snack and lunch on using spoons and forks.  Thank you for supporting us in this important learning time during their school day. J

Facebook Updates

Be sure to check out our Facebook page for darling pictures of your children in the midst of their school day as well as great videos from Ms. Kristen with songs your children are learning in Music class and links to Ms. Zara’s Spanish lessons each month.

Lunch and Learn

We will continue our series of monthly Parent Ed luncheons with Becky Danielson leading a conversation on “Little People: Big Emotions”—what a relevant topic for ALL of us with children!  We would love for you to join us this month at our Calvary location (all Berry Patch families welcome) on Wednesday, November 14th for an hour of encouragement, connection with other parents, and a delicious lite lunch.  Please RSVP at by Friday, November 9th.  (There is no charge for this event.)

Enjoy the waning fall colors and crunchy leaves as you celebrate your blessings as a family.  We count our partnership with you among our greatest treasures.
